Troubleshooting XBList
« Back to XBList
If you encounter a problem not listed here , the best thing to do is go to "Help > Open Debug Log" and send it to me along with a description of the problem you're having. If you can't even get XBList to open long enough to use the "Help" menu, find the debug log at C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\XBList\xblist_log.txt (C:\Documents and Settings\{Username}\Application Data\XBList\xblist_log.txt on Windows XP). Note that the AppData / Application Data folder is usually hidden. You can also visit the forums, where I or other users may be able to help.
Common problems
- I have signed on to Xbox.com with Internet Explorer, but XBList still says I'm not signed in
- Why does the GamerCard flash when it pops up?
- XBList won't sign on / stay signed on
- The XBList download is corrupt
- I hear a clicking sound every once in a while.
- XBList is using a huge amount of memory.
- Problem: I have signed on to Xbox.com with Internet Explorer, but XBList still says I'm not signed in.
- Solution: First, make sure that when you signed in you selected "Save my username and password." If you're using Windows Vista or later, you'll need to add "live.xbox.com" and "login.live.com" to your "Trusted Sites" list in your Internet Explorer options. XBList will offer to change these settings for you when it first runs.
- Problem: Why does the Gamer Card flash when it pops up?
- Solution: That flash is the popup loading the Gamer Card from Xbox.com.
- Problem: XBList won't sign on / stay signed on
- Solution: If XBList won't sign on, you probably haven't correctly followed the XBList Setup Guide. The other problem may be that Xbox.com is not working at the moment. I'm constantly trying to improve the error messages in XBList so that you'll have a better idea of why it isn't working.
- Problem: The XBList download is corrupt
- Solution: Make sure to save the .ZIP file to your hard drive before opening it. That helps most often. If your download really is corrupt, my only suggestion would be to re-download it.
- Problem: I hear a clicking sound every once in a while.
- Solution: If you hear a clicking sound whenever XBList updates, you need to go to the Sounds item in Control Panel, scroll down to "Windows Explorer" and disable the "Start Navigation" sound. Why is that sound even there to begin with?
- Problem: XBList is using a huge amount of memory.
- Solution: This isn't actually true. XBList runs on the .NET Framework, so at any given time it may take up quite a lot of memory as viewed through the Task Manager. However, it's not actually using all that memory, and the Framework will give up that memory if you need it. Try minimizing XBList and see how much less memory it takes! For a more technical explanation, check out this article. XBList itself takes up only about 2-4MB of memory, while the .NET runtime and the instances of Internet Explorer it uses take up the rest.
